Read what these celebrity authors and illustrators would pick as their Bounder Faeries . . .
Jenny Nimmo (Charlie Bone): The Bounder Faerie I would choose would be, without question a gryphon. I have already used one in my book Griffin's Castle. They have the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion, they are sacred to the sun and guard hidden treasures.
Jason Kruse (World of Quest on the WB): I'm a big fan of griffins but I've already got one of those in the show and in the upcoming 2nd Volume of Quest. Would a Chimera count? That seems like more of a monster than a faerie. Those are cool though. A minotaur would be nice too :)
Shannon Hale (The Princess Academy): I'd have to go with a griffin. I had a fervent love of lions as a kid, and what could be cooler than a flying lion with an eagle's head? Don't cross a griffin, that's all I'm sayin'.
Frank Beddor (The Looking Glass Wars): If I had to choose one, I would choose a Spriggan because they seem like they would be invaluable in helping me to unravel the mysteries of The Looking Glass Wars and save a lot of time in portal travel.
P.J. Haarsma (The Softwire Series): I would definitely say a Spriggan. The whole concept of portals and moving through time and space has been a fantasy of mine since I was a kid. To this day, I can still overcome a case of insomnia by plotting and planning the adventures I would have if that skill was available to me.
Robin Brande (Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature): I would like a winged horse, please. A female one, please. She would sleep on the soft rug in my bedroom, and I?d feed her organic oats and apples, and she would get along with my dogs, and every day we?d go out for a fly and a run?maybe fly to a beach somewhere, then race along the sand?and I?d never have to go through airport security again, or sit squished into a seat next to someone who keeps trying to talk to me even though I clearly have a book I?d rather read, and every evening we?d fly to where we had the best view of the sunset . . .
William Boniface (The Extraordinary Adventures of Ordinary Boy): I would have to choose a Firebird as my Bounder Faerie. I can?t imagine anything cooler (or I guess hotter in this case) than a flaming bird. I would of course do my best to protect it, but I?m guessing it would be able to do a pretty good job all on its own.
Dean Lorey (Nightmare Academy): I'm gonna go with a hippogriff. They're a combination of lion, eagle and horse, so I figure they give you a lot of bang for your buck. They can fly you around, fight for you, and they're fast on the ground, too.
Phil Hester (Firebreather): Well, it's not exactly a faerie, but I always thought it would be cool to have a Minotaur as a friend. They seem fierce and brutish, but I'm willing to bet they're simply misunderstood. It's probably a mutual respect thing. If you're cool with them, they'll be cool with you. Plus, they look awesome.
Andy Kuhn (Firebreather): I'd probably have a Bounder Faerie that's exactly like my dog Ralph in every way, except he'd have hands instead of paws, so he could assist me with my Firebreather pages.
Kaza Kingsley (Erec Rex): My Bounder Fairie would be a fiery-spirited dragon with black spines and black jointed wings, and deep reddish scales that sparkle with colors never before seen. She would be true of heart and wise, never losing sight of her path, yet not one to mess with! And she'd have a great sense of humor.
Ben Glendenning (Superworld Presents): A Djinn would be cool. I love the Arabian Nights tales -- especially Aladdin . . . Plus I think the trickiness of a Djinn would keep me on my toes and mentally sharp! Or if that doesn't fit, then a Kobold . . . 'cause I hate to clean.
Lisa Ann Sandell (Song of the Sparrow): I think, if I could choose any kind of creature to be my Bounder Faerie, it would be a Pegasus. I have always loved horses; I think there is something very wise and expressive about horses that allows us to connect with them in a special way. And what?s better than a horse that can fly?we could travel anywhere!

WHAT IS A BOUNDER FAERIE?
Bounders are faeries that are bound to a human, whom they serve and protect for the rest of that person's life. Generally, the 'binding' process occurs when the human saves the faerie's life or, in some instances, completes a quest.
THE GREY GRIFFINS AUTHORS WOULD PICK . . .
Jon: My favorite mythological creature is a Griffin, but since they are classified as a "beast" or "creature", Griffins can't be bound to humans like faeries can. I also really like werewolves, but I run into the same problem... werewolves are classified as "creatures" or "monsters". So if I can't have a Griffin or a Werewolf, I'd have to pick a Tundra Troll.
I've always been fascinated by cryptozoology -- particularly with Sasquatch and Yetis, which resemble Tundra Trolls a great deal. Since they're so powerful, Tundra Trolls would be awesome protectors, but my guess is it would be hard to keep them fed. I don't know where I'd hide one, either, but I bet nobody would mess with me!
Derek: Definitely a gargoyle!
