SUGGESTED READS
Leave It To Chance (Robinson & Smith)
You'll have to hunt this Image comic book series down since it hasn't come out for a while, but it's worth it. Chance Falconer, daughter of the mysterious Lucas Falconer, was cooler than Artemis Fowl before Artemis Fowl even existed.
Owly (Andy Runton)
These comics are wordless, so they're great for very young readers, but that doesn't stop my 12-year-old, Grey Griffins devouring daughter from loving them. Even though the stories are told in pictures alone, they are rich and complex tales of life among undeniably cute woodland critters.
Satchel Paige (Sturm & Tommaso)
This one's hot off the presses. A great graphic novel biography of the legendary Negro League pitcher and his battle with racism.
The Fantastic Four (Lee & Kirby)
These guys were the greatest super hero creators of all time and the stories they tell about the FF are the basis for almost everything that has come since. It doesn't hurt that the stories are exciting and fast paced. Simply the best comics ever.
The Prydain Chronicles (Lloyd Alexander)
Imagine The Lord of the Rings if it were populated by more recognizably human characters. Taran and his crew are young people that struggle with their emotions and make mistakes, but still find a way to do the right thing when confronted by evil. My favorite adventure novels.
