  • OCTOBER 2007 HOW TO DRAW COMICS
Q: I was wondering how to draw the comic book guys? (Dustin)
Jon: We started out drawing freehand, but then we got frustrated, because our characters didn't look like we wanted them to. So then we started tracing. Yep. We cheated. But that was okay, because it taught us to carefully look at the form we were drawing, and to pay close attention to perspective and proportion. Once we got pretty good at tracing, we pulled the paper away and tried to draw exactly what we saw. Then, once we could mimic what we saw pretty well, we started drawing what was in our head. Basically it just takes lots and lots of practice. There are some great books out there as well, and the one I had when I was a kid was Stan Lee's How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way. Just about every professional comic book artist I know has a copy. It's a definite classice!

BOOK 3: THE FALL OF THE TEMPLAR
Q: Do you think you could tell me your next book's title and when it comes out? (David)
You bet. Grey Griffins Book 3 is called The Fall of the Templar. It should be in stores in December 2007, but the official release date is January 1, 2008. Keep checking back for updates! We'll let you know as soon as we know.

    RAY FISHER
Q: Does Ray work for the Shadow King? (Tanner)
Great question, and one that isn't as easy to answer as it seems. Ray definitely made a deal with Oberon, and that's how he got his powers. The problem is that Ray is arrogant enough to think that one day he'll be able to break away, but there is always a price to pay when we try and take shortcuts. Unfortunately Ray is so consumed with a hatred of Max (for no good reason other than jealousy) that he wasn't thinking too much about the consequences.

    LUCKY NUMBER THIRTEEN
Q: How many books will there be in the Grey Griffins series? (Lesli)
We think 13, with possible spin-off series for Ernie and Natalia, and maybe even some prequels centering around the War of the Jewel (of Titania), The T.H.O.R. units in World War II (focusing on Olaf "Iver" Iverson and William Caliburn), and then maybe something with Vlad Dracula and his Order of the Dragon. You just never know -- we have more ideas than time.
